Opportunities for Regional Carbon Markets in the Netherlands
In December 2014, in Veendam, the Netherlands, a workshop was held on supporting peatland project investments in the Northern region of the Netherlands through carbon markets. Annually, 4.2 million tonnes CO2 are emitted due to lower peatland water levels, which is 2-3% of the Dutch CO2 emissions.
This presentation explains the potential role of carbon markets in acquiring additional financial revenues from peatland investment with the objective to raise the water level and prevent oxidation of carbon in the soils.
